Lil’ Wayne Finally Goes to Prison

I don’t know whether to be happy or sad for the guy, lol. But I know he wanted to begin the process of “getting it over with…”

After two separate sentencing delays, New Orleans rap star Lil’ Wayne was officially sentenced to prison today (March 8th) in Manhattan Criminal Court.

Lil Wayne was sentenced to the prison term after the rapper admitted to possessing a loaded .40 caliber handgun that was found on his tour bus after a performance in New York in July of 2007.

The rapper was taken away in handcuffs to begin serving his time on Riker’s Island.

Lil Wayne was originally supposed to be sentenced to prison on February 9th but the date was postponed to March 2nd, because the rapper needed root canals, in addition to having his platinum “grillz” removed.

The March 2nd date was rescheduled to today (March 8th), after a fire broke out in Manhattan Criminal Court’s basement which sent eight people to the hospital. Lil Wayne could be out in as little as eight months. He is expected to remain in protective custody during his time behind bars.

“Law is mind without reason. ……………..I’ll return,” Lil Wayne told fans on his Twitter page this morning.

Lil’ Wayne Officially Joins Twitter

And, despite it’s takeover, certain celebrities have exercised restrain when it came to jumping on the bandwagon.

Lil Wayne is one of the biggest artists in the world, but until this weekend, he had yet to join.

However, as of Sunday (February 21), Weezy is officially on Twitter.

“im super new to this twitter sh**, but wudup tho,” the rapper tweeted late Sunday evening. “Follow me biot¢h … wudup mak … appy bday LO … 8 days of freedom.”

Lil’ Wayne Goes to Jail

UPDATE: CNN has reported that Lil Wayne sentencing has been adjourned until March 2. The reason behind the judge’s ruling is due to dental surgery. Seems like Wayne needs to get all of those gold teeth taken out first.

UPDATE 2: Delayed again but this time because of a fire in the courtroom, lol.

Well, he had his “farwell” party last night at the Dolce Club on South Beach but today rapper Lil’ Wayne has got to do some hard time.

Nah, it won’t be too hard, I mean, jail is not exactly the best place in the world but Wayne’s a celebrity, and retired NYPD detective Derrick Parker tried to paint a picture of Weezy’s upcoming life behind bars.

Parker told MTV News that while officials would try to maintain some semblance of normalcy in the intended Rikers Island facility, Wayne would be treated differently from the average prisoner.

“Lil Wayne is gonna be OK,” Parker told MTV News. “While he’s in jail, it’s a matter of fact they may not put him with the general population because of who he is and his popularity. They might lock him down and let him come out with a supervisor and stuff like that [when he's] in the main area – but he’s definitely going to be treated differently.”

Today Wanye begins a year-long sentence for gun possession but told Rolling Stone that his prison time is God’s will for him and everything happens for a reason.

“I look at things as ‘Everything is meant to be.’ I know it’s an experience that I need to have if God’s putting me through it,” the rapper said.

Lil’ Wayne has an interesting perspective and I’m curious to see what kind of person he’ll be when he gets out. Jail gives you time to think and he’s already a “thinker.”

Hopefully the experience and outcome will be a positive one and make him a better person.

Lil’ Wayne Spits a Lil’ Wisdom on The Mo’Nique Show

Rappers are smarter than most people think. Sometimes you get the feeling that if these guys weren’t rap stars, they’d be shrewd businessmen or even lawyers.

The fact is, many rap artists ARE in fact shrewd businessmen and Lil’ Wayne tells Monique that if he wasn’t a successful rap artist, he’d still be in school studying law.

Lil’ Wayne also talked about his continued support in the rebuilding of the local area where he grew up in Louisiana through his One Family Foundation, being a father and supporting young artists on his Young Money Label.

Monique also auditioned “on the spot” for Lil’ Wayne, throwing out her best rap (half a lyric if, that) verse in hopes of getting on Wayne’s Young Money label.

Review: The Carter Documentary (Starring Lil’ Wayne)

I had the opportunity to watch Lil’ Wayne’s The Carter Documentary from QD3 Entertainment. The son of the world famous producer extraordinaire Quincy Jones, Quincy Jones III or QD3 is not a newcomer to producing documentaries, and especially when it comes to rap artists.

I first learned about QD3′s documentaries from my then distributor Image Entertainment. They distributed my first straight-to-DVD film Lord Help Us and hooked me up with some free DVDs from their catalogue. One of them was QD3′s Beef Series.

Anyway, already being a fan of his work, and since I love documentaries of all kinds, I decided to delve into uncharted territory with Lil’ Wayne’s The Carter Documentary. I say “uncharted territory” because I usually don’t follow rappers’ lives. Reason being; it’s mostly because I’m simply turned off by the negativity, the sex, the disrespectful lyrics towards women, the cursing, the drugs, the…well, you know, all that stuff!

However, I must state that this past year I’ve had a different mindset towards rappers and the rap world. I don’t know what it is but I’ve had this somewhat overwhelming compassion that has come over me when it comes to just about every rap artist in the game today. This new compassion enables me to look past the norm and somehow focus on the heart of a person and that’s what it’s all about.

Also, I’ve gained a whole new respect for rap artists like never before and the only thing I can say to those who think they are so “holier than thou” is: Don’t judge ‘em.

Okay, so, cut to the chase.

I was fascinated with this documentary. Curiosity always draws us to want to know more about a famous person, and what better way to explore and satisfy our curiousness than through watching a documentary.

I can see why Li’l Wayne’s manager Cortez Bryant tried to get a court order to stop this documentary from being distributed to the public. His frustration and hurt over Lil Wayne’s addiction to that “purple drank” and marijuana damaged their long time friendship some, and it seemed Cortez was still looking out for the best interest of his friend and “client,” if you would.

Brilliantly directed by Adam Bhala Lough, and it’s no wonder the film premiered at the prestigious Sundance Film Festival, The Carter Documentary chronicles the life of Dwayne “LIL’ WAYNE” Carter Jr. about 7 months prior to his dropping of The Carter III album up until about 2 to 3 months after its release.

The work ethic that Lil’ Wayne exemplifies during the documentary is simply incredible. It should be sobering for those “wanna-be” rap stars, as they watch this doc, to realize that famous rappers are not just about sex, hoes, drugs and money. It’s all about hard work and “staying on your grind,” as they say. In fact, Wayne mentions that he doesn’t have time for sex (he does have a lot of kids though) because he’s so focused on his work and his money. I must say, out of all the rappers in the game, Wayne comes across as the “rock star” of all rappers. Maybe it’s the way he approaches his music or how he handles his interviews, I’m not sure, but if Jay-Z is Sinatra, Wayne is Mick Jaggar Jimi Hendrix.

Speaking of interviews, I was surprised to see how well Wayne handled himself in spite of the constant “lighting-up.” He’s very respectable. Kinda reminds me of the interview he did with Katie Couric; he kept calling her “Miss Katie.” Somehow you just know he had/has a “praying grandmama” out there somewhere.

The most interesting thing about the documentary to me was the way the relationship between Wayne and Brian “Baby” (aka Birdman) Williams was conveyed. Probably my own perception but, for a split second, I thought I saw the documentary for what it truly was: a father and son love story. The weird part is, you’d never catch me kissing my 16 year old son on the lips. That’s just not gonna happen. Ever. But that’s another story, you’ll just have to Google that one.

Overall, the documentary hit home for me. I respect any artist at work. I’m not surprised that Wayne was in a gifted program in elementary school. I’m not surprised Wayne still desires to graduate from college–in spite of all his fame an fortunate.

Of course, there are some things about the documentary that I do not endorse or condone for but I won’t mentioned them. Who am I to judge? It’s kinda like in the Bible, in the Book of Job; God allows Satan (the adversary) to come up to the throne and chat about the soul and physical and economical state of Job. You’re like, “Lord, what’s up with dat?? Watchu even doin’ makin’ conversation with the devil?? And up in heaven too? I thought you were holy? How is this “evil” even allowed near the throne??”

So then who can judge God? So let God be God and rappers be rappers.
