The ‘Telephone’ Video: Did Lady Gaga Go Too Far?

I know there’s a lot of young people out there who just love Lady Gaga. I’ve written about Gaga on this site, even created a category for her. Tons of Lady Gaga fans visit my site every day. I’ve pushed some of her (other) music on this blog as well. I’ve uploaded her photos…blah, blah, blah…

So, I’m not a Lady Gaga “hater,” LOL.

But it should be noted that LG has received a lot of backlash over the controversial “Telephone” video. However, at the same time Gaga has received a lot of praise for it. Some even call the video a masterpiece.

I mostly hear old(er) people (see video below) bashing Lady Gaga for her [fill in the blank] but many young(er) people have come to her defense.

I’m curious to know if there are any Lady Gaga fans (or non fans) who actually thought she went ‘too’ far in this video?

Beyonce Was Shocked By Lady Gaga’s ‘Telephone’ Video Plot

Lady Gaga has praised Beyonce for her ‘courageous’ decision to appear in the video for new single ‘Telephone.’

The pair star together in the controversial promo, which was released on Friday and has now been viewed more than 15 million times online. The clip, which features sex and violence and is over ten minutes long, sees an extensive guest turn from the former Destiny’s Child singer.

Speaking in an interview on US radio, Gaga paid tribute to her fellow pop icon, after revealing that her initial reaction to the proposal was: ‘What’s in your head, girl!?’

‘She was very courageous in this video,’ she told Ryan Seacrest’s KIIS radio programme. Can you imagine me saying to her, ‘OK, now Beyoncé, you have to call me a very bad girl and feed me a honey bun’? ‘She trusted me because she liked my work and because she knew I loved her. It ended up being a masterpiece,’ said Gaga.

‘Telephone’ went up almost 20 places on the UK singles chart this weekend to number 12.

Lady Gaga Hit in the ‘Poker Face’ with Flowers

Lady Gaga Meets The Queen

Seems everyone is googoo gaga for Lady Gaga, lol. And Queen Elizabeth of England, too? No, not The Queen? Yes, The Queen.

Heck, I’m even becoming a fan but I have no idea why, lol. Or maybe it’s ’cause I’m fascinated with the fact that Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta Lady Gaga pulled off becoming the current queen of pop with a name like Lady Gaga. That’s just amazing. Haven’t seen her videos, can’t name one of her songs but I do recognize her whenever I see her–she’s HALF NAKED HALF the time!!

But hey, she’s Lady Gaga, right? She’s selling lots of records and EVERYBODY just loves her. I’m sure they’ll have a Lady Gaga Doll out for Christmas.

Thank God she was not granted to do the “suicide scene” for the queen. No-brainer, right? So here’s the story:

Pop singer Lady Gaga was granted the once in a lifetime opportunity to meet and perform for the Queen! Here’s a picture of Lady Gaga greeting Queen Elizabeth II following her Royal Variety performance Monday (Dec 7) in Blackpool, England. Gaga performed “Speechless” at the Queen’s Royal Variety Concert.

The singer, dressed in a red PVC dress that included a 20-foot cloak and Elizabethan-style ruffle, performed her ode to her father, “Speechless,” at the show. According to The Sun, the Queen chuckled when the pop star curtsied for her and shook her hand, and before performing, Gaga paraphrased John Lennon’s famous line before the Beatles’ performed for the Queen in 1963: “Good evening, Blackpool. Let me hear you rattle your jewelry.”

The Daily Mirror reported that Gaga had initially intended to include her suicide-act in the performance but elected not to. Instead, she he sat on a swing suspended 12 feet in the air while her piano was suspended on stilts.

“I wanted to do the suicide scene but was told it wouldn’t be appropriate,” Gaga, who “died” during her VMA performance in September, reportedly said about her performance, noting she had no hard feelings over the change. “I’ve also had to tone things down generally. But it doesn’t matter because I’m a massive fan of the Queen. I was so excited and have even been practicing my curtsy.” Source

Beyoncé, Taylor Swift Leads 52nd GRAMMY Nominations

Well, the 52 Annual Grammy nominations are in.

Beyoncé topped the nominations with 10, Taylor Swift garnered eight, and the Black Eyed Peas, Maxwell, and Kanye West each earned six nods. David Guetta, Jay-Z and Lady Gaga received five each; and Colbie Caillat, Michael Giacchino, Kings Of Leon, John Newton, RedOne, Bruce Springsteen, T-Pain, and Keith Urban each received four nominations.

For the second year, nominations for the annual GRAMMY Awards were announced on primetime television as part of “The GRAMMY Nominations Concert Live!! — Countdown To Music’s Biggest Night.” The one-hour special — broadcast live on CBS from Club Nokia at L.A. Live — featured the announcement of nominations in several categories as well as performances by the Black Eyed Peas, DJ/producer Guetta, Maxwell, Nick Jonas & The Administration, Sugarland, and host LL Cool J. Presenters included Linkin Park, George Lopez, Katy Perry, Smokey Robinson, Ringo Starr, T-Pain, and Dwight Yoakam.

“The nominations this year truly reflect the talented community of music makers who represent some of the highest levels of excellence in their respective fields,” said Neil Portnow, President/CEO of The Recording Academy. “Once again, the GRAMMY Awards process has yielded a well-rounded and diverse group of impressive nominees across multiple genres. Gotta Love It: Susan Boyle Nears Platinum Sales in One Week

Gotta love the underdog. Go Susan, you go girl.

According to industry estimates, British songbird Susan Boyle’s debut platter I Dream A Dream is set to crush Rihanna’s 1st week sales of her 4th CD by over 800,000 copies!

Boyle’s CD set a record in the UK for the biggest 1st week for a debut album in history with over 400K units sold.

Here in America, the Britain’s Got Talent runner up is expected to top that figure with over 600K sold in the first week, giving her an astonishing 1 million albums sold in the first week!

There is something to be said for great music. I guess all those industry folks who think sex sells over talent are rethinking their strategies now. Go Susan!

Interestingly enough:
Def Jam/IDJ’s Rihanna, ‘Rated R’ is expected to sell just 180-200k here in the states. This, despite the incredible hype attached to Rihanna’s first sit down interview where she discussed her fight with Chris Brown.

Lady GaGa’s Fame Monster EP, a seven-song addition to the deluxe edition available on its own, will do 180-200k.

Is Sasha Too Fierce?

All the major music websites and entertainment blogs pushed the “Video Phone” video with Beyonce’ and Lady Gaga when it was released last week. I watched the video but held out from blogging about it…until now.

Okay, so let me start with all the accolades. The director, long time music video director Hype Williams: essentially a genius when it comes to directing music videos.

As we all know, Mrs. Knowles is an amazing singer and overall performer. She has millions of fans around the world. By the way, I’ll leave Ms. Gaga for another post, lol.

Anyway, I caught Beyonce’s I Am Yours ABC special last week and watched her pray before her performance. Great, it’s all good. While not performing onstage, Bey seems to have a certain shyness and innocence about her that comes across as very pleasant. My blog is not designed to judge or point fingers at anyone but I would like to address an issue. The question:

Is Sasha Fierce simply TOO fierce? So fierce that there may be an underlying mixed message when it comes to being a role model to the young girls who follow her? I have read comments on websites in regards to the “Video Phone” video. A lot of great praises. Some disgust.

Some have felt the video is a form of soft porn. Some are quick to blame Beyonce’ for this. Beyonce’ may say it’s not her but Sasha Fierce. And then there’s the record company. Is corporate greed exploiting this woman, pimping her (if you will), and pushing sex appeal to the brink soft porn in her videos?

Or is Beyonce’ Knowles and Sasha Fierce laughing themselves all the way to the bank?
