Kobe Visits South Africa

Kobe Bryant joined NIKE Inc., the world’s largest football company, in a visit to the Football Training Center located in the heart of Soweto, South Africa to help inspire future champions. Nike recently completed a center to offer 20,000 young footballers per year the opportunity to develop their talent while also having access to HIV/AIDS education through football life skills programming.

“While basketball is my chosen sport, I’ve been a football fan all my life. So to be in South Africa for the first time and see how Nike is utilizing sport to inspire youth and educate them around HIV/AIDS is amazing,” said Kobe Bryant. “It’s crystal clear that this center will help keep kids out of trouble, improve their game, as well as empower them with the life skills they need to live better and HIV free.”

Kobe has displayed his personal dedication to fighting HIV/AIDS by sporting (NIKE)RED laces on the basketball court. The laces are the centerpiece of Nike’s Lace Up, Save Lives campaign. Conducted in partnership with (RED), the initiative offers individuals the opportunity to purchase (NIKE)RED laces, and in return Nike contributes 100 % of its profits to support programs that offer HIV/AIDS education and medication in Africa.

While in South Africa, Kobe also visited the Life Center, one of Johannesburg’s most iconic skyscrapers and the site of Nike’s ambitious, tournament installation. Reaching 30 stories or 138 meters into the sky, the building features an interactive LED screen almost half the size of a football pitch.

During this visit to South Africa, Kobe also attended the World Cup and an amazing safari.

Funny interview. Kobe, D-Fish, Ron Artest and the rest of the Laker team (less a few others like Gasol) appeared on the Jimmy Kimmel Show. Jimmy “went there” and asked if Ron had recently spoke to his psychiatrist. Ron replied, (paraphrasing) “I don’t need her no more, I got my ring now…”

LOL, gotta love Ron’s “realness” throughout the whole season.

Charles Barkley is so naturally funny he deserves his own TV sitcom, lol. The guy is a riot. You will find this video very entertaining, trust me, lol.

As you know, Jay Leno‘s back (The Tonight Show)–Michael Douglas was a guest (last night) and Charles came on the show to “just be himself.” Funny interview and Jay couldn’t help but ask Charles about Kobe Bryant‘s new model pics–you know, the pics that everyone’s been “scratchin’ their heads” over? The Kobe of Arabia pictures?

LOL, anyway, as you know, Charles was honest. Gotta love Charles.

He also talked about his recent weight lost (and his fear of droppin’ dead and having to leave ALL his money to his family, lol), LeBron James, his prediction on who will win this year’s NBA championship and Kenny “The Jet” Smith in whom he calls an idiot, lol. All in good fun though. Check the video.

Almost didn’t recognize these Kobe Bryant pictures. But check’em out; Kobe is a model now.

Los Angeles Lakers’ Kobe Bryant recently took some time out to pose for LA Times Magazine.

The all-white photos of him were photographed by Ruven Afandador at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel in Los Angeles.

The stylist is James Valeri.

In the photos, Kobe sports a series of beach-ready designer gear by Ann Demeulemeester, Kris Van Assche and Adam Kimmel.

LOL, for some reason, the photo with Kobe in that white hat reminds me of somebody straight outta the 1972 movie Come Back, Charleston Blue.

But that’s a good thing, lol…Kobe is one cool cat. Im’a start callin’ him Kobe of Arabia, lol.

Kobe Signs 3-Year, $90 Million Extension with Lakers

Kobe Bryant signed a three-year contract extension Friday worth nearly $90 million that will keep him with the Los Angeles Lakers through the 2013-14 season.

The deal will begin after next season. Bryant is making $23 million this season and is due to earn $24.8 million next season.

“It’s very rare to have a player play his entire career in one city, so I’m very excited,” he said after the Lakers beat Utah 106-92.

Bryant could earn $27.4 million in 2011-12, $30.2 million the following season and more than $32 million in his final year, when he would be 35.

Asked if it would be his last contract, Bryant replied, “I doubt it, but it’s possible.”

The deal means the Lakers achieved two main objectives going into the season – signing Bryant and 7-foot center Pau Gasol to extensions.

“We were able to accomplish those goals, helping to keep the core of this team intact for the foreseeable future and in turn help to ensure the franchise’s continued success over the years to come,” general manager Mitch Kupchak said.
