Jaden Smith Named ShoWest’s ‘Breakthrough Male Star of the Year’

Jaden Smith (the new ‘Karate Kid’) is already receiving accolades for his work on the feature from the ShoWest film festival.

The young star, who is the son of rapper/actor Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith, has been named ShoWest’s Breakthrough Male Star of the Year.

The award was presented Wednesday (March 17) at the event, which was held in Las Vegas’ Bally’s and Paris Las Vegas hotels.

Joined by their adorable kids Jaden and Willow, celeb couple Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith hosted the Nobel Peace Prize Concert in Oslo, Norway. (December 11).

Held at the Oslo Spektrum, the Nobel Peace Prize Concert honored this year’s Nobel Peace Prize winner US President Barack Obama.

Artists from all over the world — including Natasha Bedingfield, Toby Keith and Wyclef Jean — gathered to help spread the message of peace and celebrate this year’s unexpected Nobel Peace laureate.

Earlier, Will and Jada said that their primary goal was to issue a warm welcome to the world. “I’m going to have to restrain some of my standard dumbness,” Will joked.

“We want to make it seem as though we are hosting very prestigious guests in our living room. We want to be able to just bring some warmth and a little laughter and fun into the program,” Jada added. “And, at the end of the show, we’re all coming out and we’re going to sing.”

The Nobel Peace Prize Concert will be televised early next year.

Guess Who’s The New Karate Kid? It’s Jaden Smith!

The new Karate Kid is Will Smith’s son Jaden Smith. He stars (his first leading role, mind you) opposite Jackie Chan in a remake of the 1984 classic, The Karate Kid, due in theaters June 11 of next year.

Amazing how kid’s grow up so fast, eh? “Kickin’ it” with the best of celebs and already establishing himself a leading man, looks like Jaden (according to the photo) will appear opposite a young leading lady as well. Cute. I think this is the perfect film for Jaden, great choice, and not-to-mention the kid is serious about making the movie a success.

“I trained every day for four months with Master Wu [the film's fight coordinator],” Jaden, 11, told PEOPLE Magazine. Jaden plays as an American boy named Dre Parker who moves to China. See IMDB plot synopsis below.

Will Smith’s son Jaden Smith stars in this updated version of the 1980′s film that starred Ralph Macchio and Pat Morita. While the new film will be set in Beijing, China, it will borrow elements of the original plot, wherein a bullied youth learns to stand up for himself with the help of an eccentric mentor. Jaden Smith’s character moves to Beijing with his mother, where he encounters a bully situation similar to Macchio’s in his new locale. Smith’s character will be named Dre instead of Daniel, and take lessons from Chinese martial arts master Mr. Han, played by Jackie Chan.

Whereas Daniel Larusso and his mother only faced a regional move across the United States in the the first film, the producers say the script will integrate language barriers and an international collision of world views into the bully-victim-turned-martial-artist tale.
