Grammy-winning R&B icon Gladys Knight is set to unveil her new jewelry line in New Orleans during the Essence Music Festival on Independence Day Weekend.

“I am so grateful for this opportunity to continue to express my love to my fans. My jewelry is an extension of my music, which is an extension of my heart and soul,” said Knight. “To have this opportunity to employ workers in Ghana and create jewelry that is environmentally friendly, while at the same time affordable, is a dream come true!”

America the Beautiful: Why are We Obsessed with Beauty? (Video)

It’s a must-see, powerful documentary called “America the Beautiful.” Filmmaker Darryl Roberts took a Michael Moore-type approach to expose how the media often gives young girls unrealistic expectations about beauty and thinness, creating eating disorders and self-esteem issues.

Darryl followed the story of this 12-year-old African-American model Gerren Taylor (now 16) and how she starts off feeling adored and beautiful and ends up feeling fat and unwanted because of the way she’s treated by the modeling industry.

The DVD will be available in stores nationwide July 13, 2010 so check it out, it may change your life. Watch the vids below.

Cute or Not: Willow Smith’s New “Look”

Nine year old Willow Smith (daughter of Will Smith) was seen a couple of days ago in Westwood, California for her brother Jaden’s ‘Karate Kid’ premiere, and I must say that this young ingenue has a look all her own.

She and her mom Jada have received some flack for “the look” but you know me, I try my best to keep it positive here so hey…

It’s just a look, a phase, a form of expression. Who knows, maybe she’ll start a trend with this mohawkish/bouffant style hair of hers? No? Yes? Yes? No? Can’t say the girls doesn’t have a little “punk and spunk,” hehe.

ANYWAAAAY, so we asked our 5-year-old daughter Chelsea what she thought of Willow’s look–and without any hesitation, she pointed out how much she loved Jada’s dress, lol.

Although not exactly the same shade, the kicks still offer up a clean palette as the upper consists of a white leather with university blue and black adding a strong touch of contrast and will be available through Jordan Brand accounts, including Primitive.

Former Supermodel Beverly Peele Rushed to Hospital

Former supermodel Beverly Peele was rushed to a hospital last night after being involved in a car crash in Los Angeles.

Peele, who appeared on hundreds of magazine covers and in several music videos in the late ’80s — is currently in “very serious condition” at the UCLA Medical Center.

No word yet on the details of the accident.

Kobe Bryant Model Pictures (L.A. Times Magazine)

Almost didn’t recognize these Kobe Bryant pictures. But check’em out; Kobe is a model now.

Los Angeles Lakers’ Kobe Bryant recently took some time out to pose for LA Times Magazine.

The all-white photos of him were photographed by Ruven Afandador at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel in Los Angeles.

The stylist is James Valeri.

In the photos, Kobe sports a series of beach-ready designer gear by Ann Demeulemeester, Kris Van Assche and Adam Kimmel.

LOL, for some reason, the photo with Kobe in that white hat reminds me of somebody straight outta the 1972 movie Come Back, Charleston Blue.

But that’s a good thing, lol…Kobe is one cool cat. Im’a start callin’ him Kobe of Arabia, lol.

Glamour Named Magazine Of The Year

Glamour magazine took the top honor at the National Magazine Awards on Thursday, winning in a new category called Magazine of the Year that awards both print and digital efforts.

The annual awards, given by the American Society of Magazine Editors, are considered the central awards in the industry.

New York magazine led with the highest number of awards — four — followed by National Geographic and The New Yorker, with three each.

Before the society created Magazine of the Year, the top award was general excellence, given to several magazines with different circulation sizes. Largest to smallest, the general excellence winners this year were National Geographic, Men’s Health, GQ, New York, Mother Jones and San Francisco. Wired won for design, and Vanity Fair for photography.
