Legendary boxer Muhammad Ali will receive the prestigious Liberty Medal as “a champion of freedom,” the National Constitution Center and city of Philadelphia said Thursday.
The National Constitution Center decided upon Ali because of his legacy as a “fighter for religious and civil rights, a conscientious objector who took his battle to the Supreme Court and won, an ambassador for peace and justice worldwide, and a tireless humanitarian and philanthropist.”
Mr. Ali will be honored in a ceremony September 13 on the museum’s grounds on Independence Mall.
What an honor..well deserved.
Past winners of the Liberty Medal include former presidents George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton, former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev, director Steven Spielberg and musician-and-activist Bono.
