Oprah’s Next Chapter: 50 Cent’s Grandmama Beulah Doesn’t Listen to His Music (Video)

50-Cent-Grandmother

I know I ain’t gettin’ choked up over no 50 Cent!! (sucks tear back into eyeball socket).

You may have heard that rapper 50 Cent recently appeared on Oprah’s Next Chapter on OWN.  Well, grandmama Beulah Jackson (look out now!) will be appearing this time with 50 this Sunday, June 17 at 9/8c, to talk about her grandson.

And LOL, I like grandma already; she doesn’t listen to 50′s music (yes, I do sometimes) or attend his concerts because as she puts it, “Too many teenagers and all that yellin’.” LOL.

In the video, 50 also got emotional and a little teary-eyed when talking about his mother Pauline’s death when he was 8-year-old.

“I don’t think she would have agreed with me going in the direction of the hustle,” he said. “But the music and everything else that happened, I think she would be very proud of me.”

Also during the candid interview, Curtis explained why he provokes other rappers:

“Battling has always been a part of the culture,” he told Oprah. “Sometimes it’s just part of the game and there’s other times when people start to take to it just because the other person is the underdog at that point.”

I like 50. Rappers are “human” too. Good to know that. I hope Ms. O does more of these interviews with rappers. It’s nice to see this side of the Hip-Hop community–no bottles thrown!

That’s not surprising to me. My departed grandma loved me terribly and supported everything I ever did, but if I produced the kind of content that 50 produces, my granny wouldn’t listen to it either. She called it “jumping up and down music” and I always got a kick out of it when she said that. lol (I don’t listen to 50′s music either. . . although I used to). I liked a couple of things from his Get Rich Or Die Tryin’ CD.
