Award-winning recording artist and producer Missy Elliot has just announced she has Graves’ disease, and incurable autoimmune condition that affects the thyroid gland.
Missy recently spoke with People and said she was diagnosed with the disease back in 2008 and has been receiving radiation treatment to help alleviate symptoms such as dizzy spells, lumps in her throat, mood swings, hair loss, and even bulging eyes. Missy adds, “You live with it for the rest of your life.”
Missy says the radiation helped but other medications made her gain weight which she’s been able to counter through exercise.
The good news is that the disease isn’t fatal and things have gotten so much better that Missy hasn’t had to take medication in about nine months.
Good for her.
