Anthony Weiner Resigns Over Sex Scandal

U.S. Democrat Anthony Weiner has announced he is resigning from Congress, succumbing to intense political pressure following a scandal in which he sent lewd photos and explicit messages to a number of women.

Weiner’s announcement, made at a news conference in his home district of New York on Thursday, was met by several jeers in a room packed with reporters and at least one heckler.

The 46-year-old politician apologized once again for the embarrassment his “personal mistakes” had caused, adding that he had hoped to continue working for his constituents.

“I make this apology to my neighbours and my constituents, but I make it particularly to my wife, Huma,” Weiner said.

I’m still baffled at how people could send stuff like this via their cell phones.  Anyway, check out the full story here.

    I often wonder what thought processes people when making decisions. If the average Joe exchanges such messages, nobody cares. But when your public image and affects your profession/credibility, everybody will care. I guess he wasn’t thinking clearly, or maybe not thinking at all. He’s not some young twenty something, inexperienced. He’s the same age as I am, and I admit that 15-20 years ago, I sent questionable pictures of myself via Yahoo IM. Now, I know better. Weiner should have known better too, and what made it so bad, he initially made up some fictional story about a hacker accessing his computer and sending out those photos. I also wonder why people who get caught in such a scandal chose as their first line of defense to seek therapy? I welcome mental health treatment, but sometimes, people just need to look in the mirror and police themselves. That’s all the therapy they need. Self-discovery is the key. But like I always tell people, if you’re doing dirt or if you’re doing things that may be perceived as dirt, get your damage control plan together NOW and don’t wait until it all comes to light.
