I’m so excited about Oprah Winfrey‘s new OWN Television Network that just launched today–the first of the year, January 1, 2011.
I’m definitely a Oprah fan, lol and have always had a lot of respect for her. A lot of people don’t know this but I had the opportunity to work with Oprah early in her acting career. She played my mother (I played one of her sons, I should say) in this movie called Native Son (based on Richard Wright’s book) that also starred actor Victor Love, Elizabeth McGovern, Matt Dillon and Geraldine Page, to name a few. I’m in the movie’s opener, the middle and at the end of the film. Wanna see about 2 seconds with me and Oprah? Go here.
Unfortunately, the movie didn’t do as well as everyone had hoped.
I believe that having the experience of working with great or famous people is a divine experience so I’ve always been careful about judging Oprah.
Anyway, forming a network is a major accomplishment. Maybe one day I’ll tell about the time I tried to start The Family Station, lol, had it trademarked and everything. E! Entertainment came to my house and did a segment on it–people were sending me programming. Then some broker contacted me and told me there was space for the network on DirecTV but I didn’t know what I was really gettin’ into at the time–I’ll try anything, lol! Pat Robertson’s “Family Channel” came against the name (was too similar, can ya blame them?) and I simply didn’t have enough programming nor the millions I needed to get the channel on the air. Fun times though–no regrets!
Anyway, this post is supposed to be about Jay-Z. I love biographies and Oprah’s new show called Master Class is really well-produced. Check out the interview on Jay-Z–he’s had a very interesting life and I wouldn’t mind reading his Decoded book.
Personally, I think people judge celebrities like Oprah and Jay-Z too much. For me, I simply do not have time to judge others–still working on myself. But I do believe we all can learn from anyone and everyone from all walks of life. See video below.
