Oprah Donates $1.5M to Atlanta’s Ron Clark Academy
The Ron Clark Academy, a small, private middle school in Atlanta’s inner city has received a $1.5 million donation from Oprah Winfrey.
Because of the sagging economy, the school has been struggling to raise money this year to pay for its $2.8 million operating budget, which is generated almost entirely by donors.
The school is one of the city’s poorest neighborhoods and is hoping to expand its campus by building a cafeteria, gymnasium and theater.
Winfrey had donated $365,000 to the academy last December when she had school founder Ron Clark on her show. Mr. Clark is also author of the best-selling teaching book “The Essential 55.”
