Who Rock’d The AMAs?

The-2009-American-Music-AwardsWhat a night. Don’t watch much television but since I’ve been blogging about entertainment peeps as of late, I have a renewed interest to see what’s on the telly.

So I had a chance to watch The 2009 American Music Awards last night and it was cool.

I was mostly interested in seeing Janet Jackson’s opening performance and I can truly say that she rock’d it.  I did find myself praying hoping that she’d make it through the performance for some strange reason, lol.  I know, it’s not like Janet is an elderly person or anything, lol, but you know–just sayin’.  She pulled off an exceptional whopping 8-minute performance!  That’s a workout.

After Janet’s performance, I found myself watching the rest of the show:

  • So happy for Whitney, a true comeback.
  • Love Jay-Z and Alicia Keys’ performance of “Empire State of Mind.”  I cringe a little when I hear the part about Jesus, lol.  I’m like, “Jay, you know this is a predominately Christian nation…”  Didn’t seem to hurt his record sales much, though, lol.  Oh well.
  • J-LO came out fighting!  Curious to hear some more of the album.
  • I loved Mary J. Blige’s performance, gotta find that song!
  • There were a whole bunch of performers I just didn’t recognize, sorry.  Gotta step up my game.
  • My wife and I were trying to figure out why Lady Gaga was performing in her underwear.
  • I keep calling Taylor Swift Taylor Hicks, lol, but she really seems to be a sweet girl.
  • Big Timbaland fan.  Never heard of Soshy until last night and Nelly Furtado was great as usual.
  • Rihanna was there but no Chris Brown, eh?
  • I do like Kings of Leon’s “Use Somebody” but I don’t think they won anything.  Didn’t know they grew up Pentecostal.
  • Adam Lambert.  Found myself staring at his full head of hair during his whole performance.
  • Eminem and 50 Cent were cool.  My wife noticed that Eminem’s eye kept twitching but I told her that I believed it was part of his performance.  He’s gotta keep up his Psycho image, lol.
  • I didn’t expect a Gospel performance but it would’ve been nice to see Mary Mary or somebody presenting.  They may have, sometimes they don’t show everything.
  • Forgive me if I left someone out!  God Bless Michael Jackson.

Overall, the night was entertaining.  Some artists did look kind of tired during their performances.  The AMA’s seemed to have this “out with the old, in with the new,” feel to it this year.  Also, the show seemed dark.  It just had this dark feel to it.  Wasn’t sure if it was some sort of unconscious, subliminal tribute to Thriller, lol, but everyone seemed to be wearing black and I just kept seeing fire.  I was like, “The world will end soon.”  LOL.  Check out the pics below!
