Jennifer Hudson AKA Winnie Mandela
Jennifer Hudson is set to star in Winnie, a film exploring the former wife of South Africa’s first black president, Nelson Mandela (played by Morgan Freeman), Variety reports.
“Winnie” will be directed by Darrell J. Roodt, the veteran South African filmmaker whose 2006 film “Yesterday” was Africa’s Best Foreign Film nominee, and who also directed “Cry, The Beloved Country,” and “Sarafina!”
You guys have GOT to see “Yesterday,” what a great film; I actually have it in my collection. Darrell is an awesome director and this should be a nice piece. I think Jennifer can pull this role off, you? Good career move.
The American Idol star, who won an Oscar for her role in the 2006 box office hit Dreamgirls, will play the South African personality in the movie, which will begin shooting in South Africa in May next year.
